Coffee is known to be the world’s second most valuable traded commodity, behind only petroleum. Among coffee, other common drink stuff like milk, wine, tea, beer and soy milk, have huge impact on our environment, especially by demanding the use of fresh water.
As we continue to use wasteful systems for irrigation about 70% of the water supply in the world is consumed by the global agriculture sector, and the level of use is rising and will continue to rise over the coming decades.
The Water Footprint is the volume of freshwater appropriated to produce the product, taking into account the volumes of water consumed and polluted in the different steps of the supply chain. In this data tastification experiment we are representing the water usage of each of these drinks and translate this information into the taste of cup of coffee.
